Paper Iphone, stretched Iphone, what else?
IPhone was released sometimes back, but we Singaporeans have not seen it(at least not the legal version), except for those who buy hacked versions to use. What i heard was, our telecoms were not willing to share the profits of it’s sales with Apple. Anyway Apple demand quite a large percentage of the pie too. However, it looks like Singtel might finally bring it to Singapore.
The IPhone design was really good, too good that so many clones has sprung up. It’s user interface also caught many clones. Just look at some China companies that clones it, lol. More after the Jump.
Meizu M8(also known as MiniOne) was undoubtly an Iphone clone, but they have denied it. anyway, here’s it.

It features “a 533Mhz Samsung processor, 128MB of DDR SDRAM, TFT touchscreen, 720×480 resolution, 3-megapixel back camera, 0.3-megapixel front camera, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, DMB TV Tuner, GPS, video output, AVI/MPEG4/WMV support, and a 4GB to 16GB size.” This one is a cool Iphone clone, with a starkingly similar Iphone user interface. However, it looks to be a good IPhone clone that you can actually buy and use.
Next, we have this one from China. A brazen phone, with inverted Apple logos. Funny stuff, and i think it’s more of an Anti-Apple Phone.(runs on microsoft mobile 6.0, lol)

It features “Windows Mobile 6.0. TOUCH FLO smart operation interface and real-time sliding interface [what?] dynamic Screen technology (realize sensitive operation with distance, light and movement. Such as: auto cross screen when browsing web and watching movie/photo, auto shut down the screen light when phone closing to face after connection, etc.) Super large 3.2″ touch LCD, built-in OFFICE softwares, real-time send/receive E-MAIL/MSN/QQ2007. Super E-map (can realize GPS satellite navigation with external GPS receiver). Unique memory card encryption technology to prevent information leakage! All that with 128MB of ROM, 64MB of RAM, and a 200MHz TI OMAP850″A wierd iphone clone.
Another China product, without a care for copyrights issues and a similar ad campaign.

Intel has come out with kinda a stretched Iphone clone device running on the Moorestown(probably made for Apple), and it’s very cool. Not a production model though.

It features “a 45nm process but integrates a memory controller, video encode/decode engine and graphics onto a single chip. Intel positions Moorestown as a two chip solution: one being the main processor/graphics core, the other being used for I/O” But what is really attractive is it’s power saving features. “Moorestown should reduce overall package size by 50%, reduce power by half and idle power down by a factor of 10x.” A good phone to buy next time, if it ever made it to production.
Up next, we have this paper Iphone clone, the Sphone. “according to a Taiwanese reader, it’s made out of paper so people can burn it at funerals. That way, according to him, dead people will get it in the afterlife.” Wierd phone, and it comes with full specification!

It features “a 3-megapixel camera, infrared, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as a memory card slot and polyphonic ring tones.” Really wierd. Seems like the dead want a part in the Iphone fever too.
Another China product, C-002 HiPhone.
“This is the ultimate rock solid 99% iPhone clone and is selling like crazy. It is unlocked so just plug your SIM card in and you are good to go. Comes with one year warranty…No contracts. No rate plans. Just your existing SIM card is enough. Main features at a glance:
1. 3.5″ big screen that supports finger touch and no keypad, touch pen needed.
2. Dual SIM slots that holds two SIM chips and supports SIM card switching.
3. Triband GSM 900/1800/1900MHz that supports USA GSM standard.
4. Web addresses entering; web browsing, WAP setting, web address management.
5. Unlocked to any major network carrier.
6. SMS, MMS, voicemail and cell broadcast
7. MP3, MP4, file playing, recording, phone call recording.”
There are alot of Iphone clones out there, but these are probably the more interesting ones.
