I was recently in Taiwan, as noted in the previous posts, which is the home of Asus EEE PC. Anyway, i have seen the new Asus EEE 900 on sale in Taiwan, and many are getting it. Came home, and i kind off checked the internet, to my horror, this topic which was blogged(and very popular) in this humble sanctuary of mine, needs a revival, Part 2.

To start off, it’s about the Asus EEE 900 PC again, and it’s future.

Asus EEE 900 and it’s memory space

The interesting thing about Asus EEE 900 is that it comes in two flavors, the Windows XP OS and the Linux OS. What’s wierd is that, there is comparatively lesser storage space for the Windows XP OS(which demands more memory space).

“the 900 will actually carry two different flash storage units, with 4GB soldered onto the motherboard and an 8GB SSD in the PCIe slot for XP versions and a 16GB unit for Linux models. And that’s not all for Asus EEE PC.

Asus has already announced the next generation of EEE PC.(a lucrative products naturally has lots of descendants) 10 inch Asus EEE PC, anyone’s up for it?

Sharp-Willcom D4 UMPC

This is new to me, but doesn’t seems very good for it’s value. It’s looks is fine, but not the specification. Hit the title to look at it’s specification, and it’s price.

Intel Classmate 2

“The Classmate 2 will tote a 9-inch LCD display, six-cell battery, 512MB RAM, 30GB HDD, integrated webcam, 802.11b/g WiFi support, Windows XP or Linux OS and an Intel Celeron M processor, however, future versions will move to Intel’s Atom platform.” from Gizmodo

This actually looks quite good and it has slightly better specifications than an EEE PC. Best of all, it is now avaliable to anyone.

CTL IL1 Netbook

“The IL1 from CTL (who’s making the Classmate 2) looks like it might shake up the market, at least a bit, if being the cheapest thing around is the bottom line. A 1GHz Via processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB SSD or 60GB HDD plus an SD card reader, with Linux or Windows XP. The screen’s Eee-sized, an LED-backlit 7-inch LCD, all for “less than $350.” from Gizmodo

This doesn’t look that bad. It gives a more serious feel than an Asus EEE, a better choice for businessmen. And, it’s US$50 cheaper than an Asus EEE PC.

G10IL PC from Taiwanese manufacturer Elitegroup Computer Systems

“Users can expect Intel’s new Atom processors, an 8.9 or 10.2-inch screen, up to 2GB of RAM, 7.2Mbps mobile broadband (HSPA) connectivity and your choice of the XP or Linux OS. Other features include: SSD or HDD (depending on model), 3 USB 2.0 ports, an embedded 1.3-megapixel web camera, ethernet and modem jacks, WLAN and Bluetooth and a 4-in-1 card reader.” from Gizmodo

OMG, this has to be the better, or the best looking one out of the whole lot. Pricing and more specifications are not announced yet, but i’m waiting. This laptop is on my radar.

HP 2133 Mini-Note

This was, and is still my first choice for a laptop in this gerne. It’s looks is better than the rest(with strong competition from the above laptop though), and it’s ain’t lacking in it’s power too. I actually saw the advertisement(a big one) just beside Taipei 101 in Taiwan. It’s a nice little laptop.

Kohijinsha SR8KPO6S

This, is a laptop built for functionality as a small mobile PC. It has touchscreen function, a optical drive(DVD writer!!!). It also has impressive specifications.

MSI Wind Notebook

An update to this laptop which was previously shown in Part 1. MSI has released the specs for it, so here’s it.

“Taiwan-based MSI recently revealed more information on its low-cost, ultra-portable laptop, the Wind Notebook. The roughly 2.2lb notebook will run on Windows XP and feature an unusually large 2.5-inch HDD with an 80GB capacity. The Wind will be offered with either an 8.9- or 10-inch LCD display, the resolution of which is pegged at 1024×600 pixels. It is expected to compete with ASUS’ Eee PC 900. Other reported specs are believed to include a choice of processors ranging from 1.0GHz to 1.6GHz, 1GB RAM and an impressive 7-hour battery life. MSI suggests the latter may be made possible with a high-capacity battery.” from Electronista
