If you have not watch it…
First Impressions
The video starts off in the 70s’, speaking of how our nation under Lee was ostracized. Let’s fast forward roughly 40 years on, and look at how our country has generally progressed. Tells alot on the claims made in the video huh? My personal thought is that we must not be compared with other countries in terms of their political climate, because in our country it’s obvious that it’s “Uniquely Singapore”. This is so because the impression given to me has always been that the government wants total control. And so we have policies structured towards “control”. However, is that really bad?
Media
Mr Lee has never been shy about how he wants to handle the media. Media can be a perfect tool or a perfect blade, depending on how you look at it. It’s obvious that the freedom of the western media has always been a twin edged blade. Looking at how some political figures get lambast in the media everyday, I think this is partly the reason why we have such a tight media, banning these and that. In my view, it’s to build a perfect local climate where people have a generally good impression of our government. Many might say that this is redundant, but such impression plays a big part in building confidence in a country. However, the video’s claim on accountability of the government and awareness of our local citizen is quite valid. We are comparatively less concerned about politics in Singapore than people in other countries. We know we do, because we all generally have a good impression of Singapore.
Freedom of Speech and Assembly
This is not new and we have seen so called “unlawful” assembly, such as the screening of this video and how it was clamped down on. For this touchy topic, i won’t talk about it much, but i know there are many available channels where you can do them in lawful terms. How difficult is such lawful terms obtainable, is up to you to find out
Rising Prices, an Independent Society and Globalisation
What i have always been taught is that SIngapore strive to be an independent society. This means, we have only ourselves to depend on. Other than medical subsidies, our government don’t really subsidies other commodities you find in the supermarkets and such. This bring us to a problem because due to the rising oil price, commodity prices are also increasing. So, are we to pay for ourselves? Just like before?
Globalisation is a worldwide phenomenon, and a intriguing problem where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. It is due to a wide spectrum of factors that such things are happening(just google it for more information). The world don’t revolve around us, we revolve around it. So is it more of our problem to not keep up with it?
The End
This video is obviously not made in fairness to the parties shown. Many claims were against the PAP and the other political parties are left without criticism. By showing snippets of words from documents or speeches sometimes will not represent the whole idea of the documents or speeches and may instead deviate people from the truth(may not happen in all cases, but some do, trust me). Lastly, by showing how a girl cried when someone got caught(do you think she knows what was happening or was she just scared of the ongoing havoc?), or our senior citizens left on the streets(are all our senior citizens like that?), all such blames are thrown to the government. Maybe we should have a bit more in depth understanding of the situations?
Cynical remarks are also rampant throughout the video, and that’s not good.
This video has provided me a good insight into our political climate, i hope it did to you.
This is purely a movie review and does not sought to influence anyone.

i don’t think is your reasoning that fails, it is your philosophy?
The “crying girl” is Dr Chee Soon Juan’s daughter. Carrying her is his wife.
regardless of her background, “do you think she knows what was happening or was she just scared of the ongoing havoc?”
I think it does matter who she is as there were other children around that day but they were not crying at all. Only she was because it was her dad, not theirs.
But refering to your question: I believe she was scared then, but now she understands.
You can clarify for yourself too if you wish to come down and meet her. There will be a vigil for her dad and aunt tonight and tomorrow at two prisons, details at http://yoursdp.org
