Imagine working till evening as early as 6.30pm, arrange for dinner at 7pm, by the time you finish your dinner and reach home, its almost 9.30pm, you just hope to get into a good shower and go to bed before midnight. If you did not manage to leave office by 6.30pm, (most of us do not) you can imagine the time you will be home. Not to mention, having time for Babies. Majority of the workforce here do not cook at home and always reach home late. Working hours can never be compared to Swedish. We are more like Japan! Swedish or French way is defintely ideal...but can we?

Thanks for the constructive comment!
I understand where you are coming from, like how we reap benefits from our past decessors who built the homeland. Your view is rather distant from mine in a timeline, so i can't really compare. You must also note that, not all citizens are as visionary and that what is shown in front of them needs to be tackled first.
However i do affirm my stand that in the mid-future, it might not be rosy picture.(as a pioneering generation)

I think you missed the point buddy. MM Lee is trying to tell us that, Singaporeans, those who were born and bred here, need to procreate more.

Rather, this is may be a tacit withdrawal of lax immigration of foreigners into Singapore and the government MAY cap the number of immigrants to 35% of the max population.

While Singapore still welcomes foreigners, its the local Singaporeans that need to take up the task of procreation to maintain the ratio.

AP Straughan (from NUS I think...) pointed out that the costs of this expensive model is gonna be costly, and may raise tax levels to support it. I suspect that the pioneering generation of the model would pay the most for it, but benefit the generation to come. Sort of like paying it forward.

The taxes required to sustain this model when in place, might serve to urge the generations to come to make best of the various bonuses and benefits offered by the government as a form of "take back" for what they've been paying. Of course, they are actually reaping the benefits sown by the previous generation.

Just my 2 cts.
