Singapore has a hot climate, so naturally, it makes no sense donning thick clothing down the streets or having too much layering done.

Therefore, basics never go out of style in Singapore.
Basics
come in the form of T-shirts, pants and short/long sleeve shirts. For ladies, it’s very much down to the layering of clothes to achieve a comfortable feel. Not too thick, but no less sophisticated.
Fashionistas
are actually a common breed in Singapore. Just look at the number of blogshops touting different clothes, and some Singaporean personalities garnering good reviews on Lookbook.nu and the many fashion blogs that sprouts from Singapore. The many active forums on Flowerpod(for the female audience), Hardwarezone(Fashion and Grooming section) and Cozycot are the more popular ones, with many other forums out there too.

Local
Fashion Designers are also gaining ground, both in Singapore and globally. People like Ashley Isham are already famous. The Monthly MAAD Market also showcase all the innovative designers and sometimes, you can find one or 2 aspiring fashion designers in the midst. For the indie designer label lovers, hit Ann Siang Street or Haji lane for the feel of the many designer labels available. Not all are locally designed, but the fact that the many labels that are available in those streets stems from the fact that, Fashion is in demand in Singapore.

So,
enough of some rough background talks on how established fashion is in Singapore. Let’s get down to the question, “Do Singaporeans dress badly?”
Some of the
Fashion Disasters
in Singapore includes going too relax on what we are wearing. Yes, it’s a hot climate, but not to the extent that we dress without care.
Things like these are a no-no:

Wearing simple slippers at the beaches are fine, a short trip to heartland shopping malls are still tolerable too. But! If you are going to places like Marina Bay, Orchard Road etc. PLEASE! Wear your shoes! You can look for loafers, boat shoes or canvas shoes, they are easily worn and comfortable too. Unless your slippers are really intricately and nicely designed, do not wear them to town. No Havaianas(Brazilian Praia too) please!

FBTs shorts or sport shorts are for sports, or if you wanna to dress down at home. So, let’s keep it at that! If you are shopping or just chilling out, don’t wear something that out of place.

Worn T-shirts’ collars are a sign that you don’t update your wardrobe. You love that T-shirt, yes. But, it’s totally over worn and it’s time to replace it with a new one. With that many T-shirt retailers out there, you can be sure to find a new love!
There are many other fashion disasters in Singapore, but the above ones are the more common ones which should be avoided at all cause!
So we’ve talk about how Singaporeans tend to dress badly. But on a scale of 1 to 10, i will rate the scene here at
7/10
.
We’ve always been said to be backward and is actually following Taiwan, Korea or Japan fashion trends. But i don’t really think so. We are always in Summer seasons, and Summer seasons only come once per year and about 4 months in those countries. So we actually have distinct styles of to call our own. We are probably much experienced in Summer wears!
So, be cool(very much needed in this climate) and flaunt your best stuffs on the streets!
