DUBAI – The opening of Burj Dubai today could not have come at a more opportune time as the whole region has been dreaming of such a magic moment that could trigger a long-awaited economic recovery after more than year of unprecedented slump and gloom, business leaders said on Sunday.
For most businessmen and professionals from across the UAE, Burj Dubai symbolises not only the entrepreneurial and trail-blazing spirit of Dubai but also the remarkable achievements of the Arab world as a whole.
They believe that the iconic structure will not only help reignite optimism of the business world but also serve as a catalyst for new development initiatives and investment plans.
“Burj Dubai is a testimony of the phenomenal growth that Dubai has achieved over the years. It exemplifies the commitment and dedication by a country in achieving world class feats,” said Hussain Sajwani, Chairman of Damac Holding.
“Towering at more than 800 metres height, the tallest building in the world marks a defining moment for Dubai and a watershed in the economic evolution of the Middle East,” said Sunny Varkey, chairman of GEMS Education.
“To achieve such great feats, nations need vision. It was the vision of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum that helped Dubai to sail through the rough weather of the global recession. And 2010 will be a great year for Dubai and the UAE as a whole,” said Dr J R Gangaramani, Chairman of Al Fara’a Properties.
“Burj Dubai is truly a crowning glory for UAE. The tower will boost the brand image of Dubai across the world in various fields including construction, engineering, tourism and hospitality,” said Yusuffali MA, Managing Director of Emkay Group.
“It is a modern and magnified version of the vision of His Highness Shaikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum who was responsible for the construction of World Trade Centre which was at that time the tallest building in the region,” said Mahendra Patel, Group Managing Director of GEAP International.
“The impact of the sensational opening of such a structural spectacle will resound throughout the world and will definitely infuse the world economy with much needed optimism. I consider the unveiling of the Burj Dubai a fitting event that would herald the new decade in style,” said Siddharth Balachandran, Managing Director, Bumga Group.
